ToteScan Alternative 2026: Why We Built 2PACK
By 2PACK Storage · March 6, 2026 · 5 min read
Quick answer: We built 2PACK because ToteScan users kept asking for features that didn’t exist: bulk operations, dark mode, multi-photo upload, and better value. 2PACK offers labels from $5.99 (vs ToteScan’s $11.95), a free app with no subscription, and the modern features ToteScan lacks.
If you’ve used ToteScan to organize your storage bins, you know the drill: scan a QR label, add items one at a time, hope the app doesn’t glitch when you update quantities. ToteScan pioneered the QR-label-for-storage concept and has a loyal following. But over the years, users have consistently asked for improvements that never came. That’s why we built 2PACK.
What ToteScan users were asking for
Before we wrote a line of code, we spent time in app store reviews, Reddit threads, and support forums. The same requests kept appearing:
- Adding 20 items to a bin one-by-one is tedious. People wanted bulk add.
- ToteScan limits you to one photo at a time.
- Garage and storage unit lighting is bad. Dark mode matters.
- At $11.95 for 45 labels, the math adds up quickly.
Why 2PACK exists
2PACK labels start at $5.99 on Amazon. The app is free forever, no subscription, no feature gates. You get:
- Bulk add and bulk edit
- Multi-photo upload
- Dark mode
- Container type categories (box, tote, drawer, shelf)
- Customizable default locations
- Product barcode scanning (UPC/EAN)
2PACK vs ToteScan: side by side

When to choose ToteScan instead
We’re not saying 2PACK is right for everyone. ToteScan has two advantages we don’t (yet):
- Alexa integration for voice search via Amazon Echo
- It’s the established brand with a longer history
If those things matter to you, ToteScan is a solid choice. For everyone else, 2PACK delivers what ToteScan’s users have been asking for, at better pricing.
The migration path
Already using ToteScan? The migration is simple:
- Order 2PACK labels (they’re just QR codes — any QR label system uses the same underlying tech)
- As you access your storage bins, apply a 2PACK label alongside or replace the ToteScan one
- Re-catalog the bin contents in the 2PACK app
- Over time, all your bins transition to the new system
Most people migrate during a natural re-organization anyway: a move, a garage cleanout, a storage unit refresh. No need to do it all at once.
